Are eBikes road-legal?
All DiroDi Rover 250W models are EN 15194 certified and road-legal in every Australian state. No registration is required, and motor assist cuts out at 25 km/h.
The DiroDi Rover 500W models also offer a 250W road-legal mode: in 250W mode they are road-legal in all states (EN 15194), and in 500W mode they are road-legal in NSW only. The 500W mode is not road-legal in QLD from 1 July 2026 under the new QLD eMobility laws, and is not road-legal in states other than NSW. Off-road 1000W models are for private property use only.
⚠️ Queensland riders — new rule from 31 August 2026: riders must be 16 years or older AND hold at least a learner licence (QLD, interstate or overseas) to ride an eBike on public roads and paths — this applies to all eBikes, including 250W models. Children aged 12–17 may ride under adult supervision under an exemption. Parents/guardians can be fined if children under 16 ride illegally. No licence is currently required in other states. See the QLD Government e-bike rules for details.
